This Sunday features 13 football betting showdowns, which includes the St. Louis Rams, who invade the city of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field; kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 ET.
The St. Louis Rams were 4.5-point underdogs in their final NFL pre-season betting contest at Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs; the ‘total’ was listed at 34. The Rams rested their entire first squad and as a result, the Chiefs were able to capitalize.
Kansas City running back Kolby Smith, a second year man out of Louisville, scored two touchdowns in Kansas City’s 21-17 victory. Though they lost the game SU, the four-point defeat was enough to allow them to cover the 4.5-point spread, pleasing those bettors who took the Rams plus the points according to the closing NFL odds.
St. Louis has an interesting dichotomy on defense. In the pre-season, they had the #1 rated defense against the pass but were rated #32 against the run (dead last). In Pre-season Week 4, Philadelphia was three points favorite at home, over the New York Jets, with the ‘total’ set at 35.
The Jets won this NFL wagering contest by a final score of 27-20, which combined to go over the ‘total’ suggested on the closing NFL betting line. The loss dropped the Eagles’ pre-season record to 2-2 SU & against the spread.
Philadelphia’s #3 ranked defense recorded four sacks vs. the Jets, while the Eagles’ second and third string offense was able to move the ball and put some points on the board. Head coach Andy Reid elected to have his offensive starters sit this one out, preferring that they rest up in preparation for Sunday’s season opener.
Look for Donovan McNabb and the Eagles to try and exploit the Rams’ weakness in defending the run, which in turn should find Philly’s star running back, Brian Westbrook, having a huge day for fantasy football players. The Philadelphia Eagles are 7.5-point favorites over the St. Louis Rams in Sunday’s football betting contest.
