NFL Betting: St. Louis Rams vs. New York Jets

NFL betting features an inter-conference matchup between the improving Rams and the surprising and upstart Jets.

NFL betting fans have seen the dynamics change somewhat with the Rams since Jim Haslett took over as head coach.  Haslett took over after a catastrophic 0-4 start for St. Louis both straight up and against the NFL odds.

Haslett won his first two games straight up and beat the pro football betting lines in his first three games before last week when St. Louis lost both straight up and against the NFL betting lines with a 13-34 blowout loss at Arizona.  Since Haslett took over the Rams have gone under the NFL betting total in three of his four games.

The Rams are a poor offensive team as evidenced by their ranking 30th in the pro football betting stats for total offense.  On defense, the Rams are just as bad ranking 30th there as well on the NFL betting charts.  It was figured that quarterback Brett Favre would give the Jets a shot in the arm and revitalize them as contenders.

Favre has been erratic but the Jets are 5-3 straight up and 4-4 against the NFL odds.  The Jets are tied for first in the AFC East with New England and Buffalo.  The Jets won at Buffalo last week 26-16 as 5-point dogs, covering the pro football betting line for the first time after two consecutive failures.

The Jets rank in the middle of the pack on the NFL betting charts for total offense and passing yards, but are a respectable 13th on the NFL betting charts for total defense.  The Rams have been a long time poor play against the NFL betting lines after a straight up loss as their mark of 19-41-1 reveals.

St. Louis is also just 20-44-1 against the NFL betting lines after a point spread failure in their previous game.  The Rams are 7-19-1 against the NFL betting lines when scoring 15 or fewer points in their previous game and are 2-8 against the NFL betting odds when coming off a straight up loss by a margin of more than 14 points.

The Jets have gone under the NFL betting total 9 straight games when coming off a point spread cover.  In this head to head series the Rams have covered the NFL betting line 4 straight times.
