The Seattle Seahawks (1-5, 2-4 ATS) invades Monster Park to do battle with the San Francisco 49ers (2-5, 2-5 ATS). Earlier this season, these two NFC West rivals hooked up at Qwest Field, with the Niners coming out on top in overtime, 33-30.
The high scoring victory snapped a two-game SU and ATS winning streak for the Seahawks, and also crushed the streak of four straight ‘under’ match-ups between the two divisional rivals. By all rights, the Seahawks had no business being on the same field as the Buccaneers last weekend.
They were outgained by almost 230 yards, turned the ball over twice, were beaten 22-7 in first downs, and only possessed the ball for 18:19, but nevertheless, football betting fanatics who took the 10.5-points offer on the NFL betting line found a way to hit the backdoor when QB Seneca Wallace threw a touchdown pass with 2:00 remaining in the game.
The final score was 20-10. Wallace, filling in for an injured Matt Hasselbeck, completed just 12-of-23 passes for 73 yards. If you discount a run of 45 yards by Maurice Morris and one of 21 yards by Julius Jones, the Seahawks only managed 110 yards of offense on 37 plays.
Even though the 49ers were also double-digit underdogs, they at least stayed relatively competitive with the defending champs in Week 7.
After returning a blocked field goal for a touchdown to make the score 24-17, the Niners fell apart at the seams, giving up a field goal and an inexcusable safety to lose 29-17 to fail to beat the football betting line for their NFL betting backers for the fourth week in a row.
QB JT O’Sullivan threw for 256 yards and a score, but also tossed an interception and fumbled four times. As a result of the loss, HC Mike Nolan was dismissed earlier this week to be replaced by the former great Chicago Bears middle linebacker. In spite of their struggles, the Niners are 5-point favorites in this NFC West showdown, with the game ‘total’ set at 42.
