NFL Betting: San Diego Chargers vs. New Orleans Saints

The Chargers (3-4 SU, 3-3-1 ATS) will be in London, England this Sunday for an inter-conference NFL betting contest with the Saints (3-4 SU, 4-3 ATS).

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 ET.  The last time these two teams met head to head was way back in Week 9 of the 2004 season, where the Chargers clobbered the Saints by a final tally of 43-17 in San Diego.

The Chargers were in Buffalo last weekend and found themselves one-point favorites over the Bills with the ‘total’ going off the board at 44.5 according to closing NFL odds.  Chargers QB Philip Rivers completed 22 passes out of 29 attempts for 208 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw an interception and fumbled twice.

The Bills defense held Pro-Bowl RB LaDainian Tomlinson to only 41 yards on 14 carries the entire afternoon.  The 5-1 Buffalo Bills won this football betting contest by a final score of 23-14, covering the NFL betting line straight up and against the spread.  The Bills are atop the AFC East division midway through the 2008 NFL season.

The Saints were three point underdogs to NFC South division rival Carolina at the Panthers’ home stadium last Sunday; the ‘total’ in the NFL betting match-up was slated at 44.5.

New Orleans QB Drew Brees and the Saints’ offense, known for generating a lot of yardage and points, was held to just seven points on the afternoon despite compiling 343 total overall yards, seven more than the Panthers.

Brees spread the ball around to eleven different receivers, but the Panthers defense was able to stop the Saints from scoring in the red zone.  Carolina earned the 30-7 victory with the help of two Jake Delhomme touchdown passes and three John Kasay field goals, ultimately covering the football odds by twenty points.

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints will take on his former team, the San Diego Chargers, this Sunday at the Superdome in New Orleans.  San Diego is three point favorites in this NFL betting contest, with the ‘total’ predicted to be 47.
