On NBC’s Sunday Night Football, two AFC North rivals will hook up when the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0, 1-0 ATS) invade the “Dog Pound” to take on the Cleveland Browns (0-1, 0-1 ATS). Kickoff from Cleveland Browns Stadium is set for 8:15 ET. The Steelers have absolutely owned this rivalry of late, going 9-0 SU and 7-1-1 ATS in their L/9 meetings.
The Browns haven’t beaten their foes from Pittsburgh at home since they were the franchise now known as the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers were one of the more impressive teams in the opening week of the NFL season.
QB Ben Roethlisberger was nearly perfect completing 13-of-14 passes with a pair of TD tosses to WR Hines Ward, but the day belonged to RB Willie Parker who amassed 138 yards and three TDs on the ground against a Texans defense that had absolutely no answer.
Though Houston scored a couple late touchdowns to make the final score look more respectable, the Steelers had the football betting line beaten with ease for their NFL betting fans from the get-go. The 21-point margin of victory saw them demolish the seven-point spread. Cleveland wasn’t nearly as fortunate in its opening weekend game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Expectations for QB Derek Anderson and the Browns were high going into that game, as many football betting followers backed them as six-point underdogs on the NFL betting line. They were bitterly disappointed with the 28-10 defeat; in a game the Cowboys severely outclassed them on both sides of the ball.
The defense had no answer for Tony Romo and the Dallas offense that racked up 487 total yards, while the offense only strung together one solid scoring drive of its own. Cleveland only managed 205 yards of total offense and will have to improve if they expect to finally upend the Steelers and pick up its first win of the season.
Oddsmakers have tabbed the Steelers as rather hefty 6.5-point road favorites in this good old fashioned rivalry, with the ‘total’ locked in at 44.5. Though the Browns have had no luck against Pittsburgh lately, they did go 7-1 SU and ATS last year at home.
