NFL Betting: New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins

Brett Favre and the Jets will open the 2008 NFL Regular season in an NFL betting contest with its AFC East division rival, the Miami Dolphins.

This NFL betting matchup will be held at Dolphin Stadium on Sunday; kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 ET. The Fins played well in the pre-season, particularly on defense, holding their opponents to an average of just 10.2 points per game (#2 in the NFL) and an average of 219.5 yards per game (#2 in the NFL).

Miami got its third exhibition win last Thursday in a NFL wagering contest vs. the Saints in New Orleans. The football betting line had the Dolphins as a one point underdog against the Saints, with the ‘total’ set at 35.5. QB Chad Henne, the Dolphins rookie quarterback out of Michigan, had a decent performance for the Dolphins, completing 16-of-20 passes for 137 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

Miami won the time of possession battle, controlling the ball for more than ten minutes longer than New Orleans. When the Dolphins’ defense was on the field, they dominated, holding the Saints offense to 99 total yards the entire game.

The New York Jets were a three-point underdog per the closing NFL odds in their final pre-season exhibition against the Philadelphia Eagles last week, with the ‘total’ closing at 35. The Eagles bolted out to an early 10-0 lead in this NFL betting affair, but by halftime, the Jets trailed by just three points.

New York erupted in the second half outscoring the Eagles 17-7, which allowed Jets backers to cash their tickets both ATS and on the money line. NFL bettors that picked the Jets to cover, and thought that the total would go over 38, were doubly excited to cash their parlay tickets after NY emerged victorious by a final score of 27-20.

Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington will make his starting debut for Miami on Sunday against his former squad, the New York Jets, who are currently stand as three-point home underdogs. The ‘total’ for this football betting contest is slated at 36.
