The Yellow Jackets (5-1 SU, 4-0 ATS) were fortunate to squeak out a 10-7 win against FCS Gardner-Webb last week and will certainly need to play better this week. On the other side of the field, Clemson’s poor offensive performance in their 12-7 loss to Wake Forest not only led to Bowden being sacked, but Cullen Harper has also been benched in favor of redshirt frosh Willy Korn.
The Yellow Jackets needed to block a field goal with three seconds left to escape with a victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday. The offense was terrible, being held to less than 200 yards and completing only three passes the entire game. Other than a 79 yard pass from Calvin Booker to Jonathan Dwyer, the Jacket offense was held in check all day long.
After failing to cover their last three games per the NCAA betting odds under former HC Chan Gailey at the end of last season, the Jackets are off a 4-0 start for those who wager on college football this year. If there is one thing you could say about Clemson, it is that it’s at the very least consistent.
To start the season, the Tigers are not only winless ATS off of the closing college football lines but have also played all of their games under the NCAA football betting ‘total’. An offense that was considered the best in the ACC in the preseason, could only manage 10 first downs and 198 total yards last Thursday night against the Demon Deacons.
Also disappointing for the Tigers, is the backfield duo of C.J. Spiller and James Davis that has only rushed for 714 yards on the ground after combining for 1832 rushing yards just a short season ago. The football gambling odds slapped Clemson right across the chops by installing the visiting Yellow Jackets as 2.5-point road favorites.
