NCAA Betting: Michigan Wolverines vs. Purdue Boilermakers

The Wolverines could lose their NCAA betting record; 40 straight winning seasons and 33 straight bowl appearances and will need to win out to save these streaks.

The tall task begins with a trip to West Lafayette to play the Purdue Boilermakers (2-6 SU, 2-4-1 ATS).  Last week, Michigan (2-6 SU, 1-7 ATS) lost for the first time in their last seven meetings against in-state rival Michigan State, a 35-21 loss against the NCAA line.

On the other side of the field are the Boilermakers who are putting together the worst season under HC Joe Tiller’s watch in his last season at the helm.  HC Rich Rodriguez has struggled with implementing his system at Michigan with Lloyd Carr’s old personnel.

After eight games, his offense has only averaged 18.9 PPG for college football betting fans, a number that puts them dead last in the Big 10, and they’re also the only Big 10 team to be averaging less than 300 yards per game.  The lack of offense has been a big factor in why the Wolverines are 1-7 ATS per the NCAA betting odds so far this season.

Despite the lack of offensive production, a defense ranked second to last in the Big 10 surrendering 28.8 PPG has led to six of the Wolverines’ eight games combining to go over the ‘total’ per the closing NCAA gambling lines.  Much like Michigan, Purdue has had an extremely disappointing season by its standards.

The Boilermakers have yet to record a Big 10 win this season and the former high-octane offense has scored just 41 combined points in four conference games, a glaring indicator as to why five of their seven games have gone under the ‘total’ per the NCAA betting lines.

Last week against the Gophers they scored just six points when in previous years they had never scored less than 27 under Tiller against Minnesota.  Over the past four seasons, Purdue has a NCAA football gambling record of 7-14-1 ATS at home.

Current NCAA odds find the Boilermakers sitting as two-point home favorites in this Big 10 game with a ‘total’ of 44 points.
