Preakness Stakes Odds - Animal Kingdom Shoots for Crown

Preakness Stakes odds handicapping excitement is over the top for Saturday’s race as Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom will be amongst the favorites.

Preakness Stakes odds players will be trying to evaluate whether or not Animal Kingdom can emerge as a Preakness Stakes betting winner with a final shot at the Triple Crown 3 weeks later.

The 136th running of the Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday from the Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland.  Be sure to have your Sports Gambling account open and ready for action on the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

Animal Kingdom enters Preakness Stakes wagering as something of a surprise winner of the Kentucky Derby as he went off as a 21-1 long shot in his first ever run on dirt.  It is interesting to note that Animal Kingdom was bred to run on turf rather than dirt.

What is just as interesting was that winning jockey John Velazquez, Hall of Famer that he is, was a substitute rider that had his own horse scratched and only got the mount after the original jockey of Animal Kingdom sustained an injury on Derby Day.

It all adds up to quite a story and a reminder at just how much fate and luck has to do with horse racing and handicapping the Triple Crown. Out of nowhere Velazquez won his first Derby and now Animal Kingdom has the chance to become the first horse since 1978 to win the Triple Crown.

If Animal Kingdom is the winner at Pimlico on Saturday he will enter the Belmont Stakes three weeks later in run for the Crown.

One of the big Preakness Stakes handicapping advantages that Animal Kingdom has is Velazquez himself. Velazquez is one of the most successful and respected jockeys in the history of horse racing and finally has the monkey off his back at Churchill Downs where he won the Derby for the first time in 13 tries.

Velazquez now has a chance to win the Preakness for the first time in his career to complete a personal Triple Crown has he was a previous winner in the Belmont Stakes.

Trainer H. Graham Motion will enter Animal Kingdom to the starting gate with the Preakness Stakes odds having a background that is more oriented towards turf although he is proving to be just as successful on dirt in recent years.
