Low Numbers for Preakness Stakes Odds

Preakness Stakes odds will have some low numbers, especially on the favorite, Animal Kingdom.

The Kentucky Derby winner is almost always favored in Preakness Stakes betting and that should be the case again this year.  Even though Animal Kingdom was a longshot in the Derby, he will be a low priced favorite in the Preakness.

Preakness Stakes odds have much lower numbers than the Kentucky Derby because the field is much smaller. The 2011 Preakness Stakes will be held Saturday, May 21st at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

Animal Kingdom will be looking to win the Preakness and go into the Belmont with a chance to end the long Triple Crown drought. You have to go all the way back to 1978 with Affirmed for the last Triple Crown winner.

There is no question that Preakness Stakes handicapping begins with the favorite.  The Preakness has been a race where the favorites or the second choice in the race oftentimes are victorious.

The winner of the Kentucky Derby is almost always favored in the Preakness.  Even if the horse is not favored, he is going to be a short price.  There just are not that many longshots that win in Preakness Stakes betting.

The Preakness is run at a shorter distance than the Derby which means speed is important.  Animal Kingdom should really like the track and should have no problem running his race.  The horse close extremely well in the Kentucky Derby and he won convincingly.

Many people will see the big odds on the horse in the Derby and have some doubts about the horse but he has a ton of talent. The one concern about the horse was whether he would take to the dirt after running on turf and those questions were answered in a big way in the Derby.

If you are looking for value on the Preakness Stakes odds board it is going to be tough to find. You can take a chance with one of the longshots but history is against you. The longest shot to ever win in Preakness Stakes wagering went off at 23-1 and that is a nice price but nothing compared to the odds we see every year in the Derby.
