Kentucky Derby wagering handicapping starts with those earlier qualifying races that lead to a Kentucky Derby bet online. The opening favorite on the Kentucky Derby wagering board was I Want Revenge as gamblers could make a Kentucky Derby bet online on this horse at 3-1 odds at the start.
I Want Revenge got off to a horrible start at the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct to win by a length and a half over West Side Bernie, who is also listed on the Kentucky Derby wagering board, though at 33-1. I Want Revenge was given up for dead, with no chance of winning the Wood Memorial just 2 seconds after the race began.
It was a performance by I Want Revenge that will inspire plenty of Kentucky Derby wagering activity. I Want Revenge leaped and jerked out of the Wood Memorial gate and was quickly five lengths behind at the outset. 19-year old jockey Joe Talamo did a remarkable job that was veteran like in getting the horse under control.
It took the entire race for I Want Revenge to prevail but he showed the heart and determination of a Kentucky Derby wagering winner. I Want Revenge had previously won The Gotham to add to his Kentucky Derby wagering credentials.
Quality Road opened with 5-1 Kentucky Derby wagering odds after winning the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. What made Quality Road’s win even more impressive is that he beat out another favorite on the Kentucky Derby wagering board, Dunkirk, in an exciting stretch run to the wire.
Quality Road set a Gulfstream Park track record time of 1:47:72 in the 1 and 1/8 miles race. Quality Road held back at the start and stalked the leader with superb riding by jockey John Velazquez and edged out Dunkirk by 1 and 3/4 lengths. Dunkirk trailed by as many as 8 lengths before closing fast, but not quite fast enough.
