Kentucky Derby betting handicappers will be giving Jackson Bend a serious look for their Kentucky Derby gambling list of candidates as he has been a remarkably consistent horse. Jackson Bend has one of the most impressive resumes in the entire Kentucky Derby betting field.
In nine career starts Jackson Bend has five wins and four second place finishes and was the dominant two year old in Florida for 2009.
Jackson Bend is owned by LaPenta and trained by one of the most respected names in Kentucky Derby betting with Nicholas Zito. Calvin Borel will get the mount and made his fame last year when he road Mine That Bird to victory for the blanket of roses as a 50/1 long shot. Jackson Bend is by Hear No Evil and Sex Stockings.
Jackson Bend enters action on the Kentucky Derby odds board having last run in the Grade I Wood Memorial at Acqueduct on April 3 where he finished a distant second to Kentucky Derby favorite Eskendereya by almost ten lengths.
Prior to that he had a second place finish in the Fountain of Youth, a Grade II race at Gulfstream Park on February 20. The Fountain of Youth, like the Wood Memorial, is one of the most important prep races in Kentucky Derby betting.
Jackson Bend again finished a distant second to Eskendereya, this time by eight and one half lengths after going off as the second choice on the board.
Zito has one of the better Kentucky Derby betting resumes of any trainer. He saddled Kentucky Derby winners Strike the Gold in 1991 and Go For Gin in 1994. He also has a win in the Preakness Stakes and two wins in the Belmont Stakes.
In 2005 he set a record for posting five horses in the Kentucky Derby, for five different owners, but none of them came into the money.
Zito’s name carries considerable Kentucky Derby betting credibility and, along with Borel on board, will make Jackson Bend one of the most popular value plays on Derby Day and an excellent quinella and box candidate to pair with the favorites.
