Caracortado Preakness Stakes Odds

Preakness Stakes odds should include Caracortado. The horse could be a threat to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver in Preakness Stakes betting.

This horse is owned by owned by Blahut Racing, LLC & Lo Hi Racing, and trained by Mike Machowsky. Preakness Stakes odds favor Super Saver but Caracortado is likely to get some action based on his horse racing resume and his pedigree.  He won the Robert B. Lewis Stakes but was fourth in the Santa Anita Derby.

Caracortado won his first five starts before losing in the San Felipe and the Santa Anita Derby. Trainer Mike Machowsky said that Caracortado is doing well heading into Preakness Stakes odds. He worked five-furlongs recently at Santa Anita Park in 59.40 seconds, the second fastest work at the distance.

He did not have enough graded earnings to make the Kentucky Derby.  He is well rested and ready for the Preakness Stakes betting field. “He worked great,” said Machowsky.

“He has always run well fresh and probably needed a little break. We spent a little time with him blowing an abscess out of his foot so maybe it will work out for the best. I’ll probably work him seven-eighths Saturday. He could be tough with the way he is training.”

The pedigree for Caracortado looks good for Preakness Stakes wagering with his sire being Cat Dreams who is the son of Storm Cat. His dam is Mons Venus who is by Maria’s Mon who was the Two-Year Old Champion male horse in 1995.

Maria’s Mon sired Kentucky Derby winners Monarchos and this year’s Preakness Stakes odds favorite, Super Saver. Cat Dream’s foals have shown speed.  His first starter was Cat Dreamer and he set a track record of :50.84 for 4 1/2 furlongs at Hollywood Park two years ago.

There can only be a total of 14 starters in Preakness Stakes odds since the field is limited to 14.  Many of the Derby horses are looking at coming back for Preakness Stakes odds including Super Saver.  Another son of Maria’s Mon, Turf Melody could also be in the field although trainer Graham Motion said a final decision would be made later.

In fifteen of the last eighteen Preakness Stakes odds fields there have been at least ten starters. That is almost a given again this year with a full field of 14 a distinct possibility in Preakness Stakes odds.
