Belmont Stakes odds will have Ice Box as one of the Belmont Stakes betting favorites as the runner up in the Kentucky Derby that has plenty of rest and ability.
Ice Box brings an impressive record to the Belmont gambling board as in his 8 career starts he has 3 wins and 1 second place finish with total earnings of over $906,000. Ice Box is trained by hall of famer Nick Zito with Jose Lezcano getting the mount.
Ice Box caught the attention of all handicappers with his impressive run with the horse betting odds in the mud and slop of Churchill Downs at the Kentucky Derby. Ice Box finished a phenomenal 2nd after entering the stretch run all the way back in 11th position.
It was a skillful ride by Lezcano who closed hard and had the animal within 2 and one half lengths at the end.
Prior to the Kentucky Derby Ice Box further padded his resume with the Belmont Stakes odds by winning the Grade 1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on March 20 as he beat out Pleasant Prince and Rule. Ice Box was in 4th position as they hit the stretch but swung up and beat out Pleasant Prince by a nose.
In the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park on February 20 Ice Box finished a disappointing 5th as the biggest name in horse racing gambling prior to the Triple Crown season, Eskendereya, was the winner. Ice Box never recovered from his slow start as he was 10th at the half way point and ran out of time.
His two other wins prior to his run with the Belmont Stakes odds occurred in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park on January 18 and in a Maiden run at the Meadowlands on October 30.
Zito could prove to be a significant horse racing betting advantage as a hall of fame New York trainer with two prior wins in the Belmont Stakes in 2008 with long shot Da’ Tara and in 2004 with Birdstone. There may be no other race as important to Zito as the Belmont Stakes.
