Belmont Stakes odds excitement continues to build as First Dude is expected to be one of the top Belmont Stakes betting contenders and a horse that will receive lots of play.
First Dude will enter Belmont gambling action with a record of 7 career starts with 1 win, 4 second place finishes, 1 third place finish and total career earnings of just over $352,000. First Dude is trained by Dale Romans and jockey Ramon Dominguez will get the mount.
First Dude was something of an afterthought with the horse betting odds when he entered the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on May 15 as he was something of a long shot as he entered the starting gate.
That quickly changed, however, as First Dude bolted out of the gate and was in first place at the quarter pole, where he remained all the way to the stretch where he was in second place, which is where he ended up at the wire behind Lookin at Lucky.
Immediately after the Preakness Stakes, First Dude had newfound respect and had garnered plenty of attention heading into the Belmont Stakes.
First Dude had a lengthy layoff prior to the Preakness Stakes as his last run prior to Pimlico was in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland on April 10 where he finished 3rd behind Stately Victor and Paddy O’ Prado.
Stately Victor will also be on the Belmont Stakes odds board. First Dude was bounced at the start of this Grade 1 race and never fully recovered.
Prior to the Blue Grass Stakes, First Dude ran in another Grade 1 horse racing gambling event in the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on March 20 where he finished a disappointing 5th behind Ice Box and Pleasant Prince. Ice Box will be on the Belmont Stakes odds board on Saturday.
This will be Dominguez’s fifth consecutive horse racing betting start aboard First Dude, who was named after Todd Palin, husband of Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and 2008 Vice Presidential candidate.
First Dude is by Stephen Got Even and Run Sarah Run with AP Indy also in his bloodlines.
