Belmont Stakes betting fans will always remember trainer Rick Dutrow’s prediction of beating the Belmont Stakes odds only to fall short due to the super horse’s leg injury.
This year Dutrow will field a long shot with the horse betting odds as he will send Spangled Star to the starting gate on June 5. Spangled Star will have plenty of help aboard as the great Garrett Gomez will get the mount as he will ride his third different horse in the final Triple Crown race of the 2010 season.
This will be his first ever mount aboard Spangled Star.
Spangled Star has a horse racing gambling record of 8 starts with 1 win, 2 second place finishes, and 3 third place finishes good for total earnings of just over $50,000.
Spangled Star was entered into Belmont Stakes betting action after his last run on April 24 in the Grade 3 Withers at Aqueduct where he finished in 3rd place in a race that covered 1 mile. Spangled Star finished well and improved his position down the stretch.
Spangled Star furthered his Belmont online stakes wagering resume with a 3rd place finish in another 1 mile race at Laurel on February 24. Spangled Star was in 2nd place when they hit the stretch but could do no better as he was brushed heading for home.
Spangled Star earned his lone win on January 2 at Laurel in a race that was 1 mile and 1/16 in a Maiden race. Overall Spangled Star has good Belmont Stakes betting momentum with five consecutive finishes in the money heading into this marathon of a mile and a half.
Gomez has been one of the most interesting stories in all of horse racing betting this year as he originally got the mount on Kentucky Derby co-favorite Lookin at Lucky but ended up finishing 6th in the Run for the Roses as he was out -maneuvered early and never recovered.
Trainer Bob Baffert fired him and he mounted Dublin for the Preakness and finished 5th as Lookin at Lucky won the run for the Black Eyed Susans.
