Belmont Stakes betting action will include a new name for Triple Crown racing as Drosselmeyer will take to the gate with the Belmont Stakes odds on June 5.
Drosselmeyer will enter action with the horse betting odds from the famed WinStar Farms and was supposed to enter the Kentucky Derby but his less than stellar performances in key Derby prep races prevented him from having the necessary earnings to make a run for the roses.
Drosselmeyer has a horse racing gambling record of 8 starts with 2 wins, 3 second place finishes, and 2 third place finishes good for total earnings of just over $201,000.
Drosselmeyer last race prior to Belmont Stakes betting action took place right at Belmont Park on May 8 in the Grade 2 Dwyer in which he finished 2nd to Fly Down in a race that was 1 and 1/8 miles in length. Drosselmeyer was blocked after breaking slow out of the gate with Kent Desormeaux aboard.
Mott William I is the trainer for Drosselmeyer and hall of fame jockey Mike Smith will get the Belmont online stakes wagering mount in place of Desormeaux, who was Drosselmeyer’s main jockey prior to this upcoming race. Smith got the ride in an attempt by race manager Eliot Walden to “shake things up a little bit.”
Walden said this Belmont Stakes betting shakeup is similar to what happened at the Preakness Stakes when Garrett Gomez was relieved of riding duties aboard Lookin at Lucky, who went on to victory.
“Kent has done nothing wrong. He’s had him in good position in his races, he just didn’t come through on the inside,” said Walden. “We thought we’d try something different. We just thought a change might be a good move.”
Smith is a famed jockey in New York that has one about every big and classic type of race in horse racing betting with the lone exception off the Belmont Stakes. Smith rode Jackson Bend to a 12th place finish in the Kentucky Derby and improved to 3rd place in the Preakness Stakes. This will be his 13th Belmont Stakes mount.
