Preakness Stakes odds are on the board for the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 21st.

Preakness Stakes odds will list up to 14 horses in the race since that is the maximum allowed in the race. The Preakness has a smaller field than the Kentucky Derby and the race is run at a shorter distance at a mile and 3/16th. The Preakness is run at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland and is known as “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans.”

Historically the favorite has done extremely well in Preakness Stakes betting through the years. Rarely do longshots have any chance of winning this race as it has been more than 25 years since any horse won this race at double-digit odds. It is more common for the big name horses to do well in this race.

Top horses like Smarty Jones, Big Brown, Curlin and Rachel Alexandra have all won the Preakness in recent years. The 2004 win by Smarty Jones came by 11th lengths which was the largest margin of victory in Preakness history. When Rachel Alexandra won two years ago she was the favorite and became just the fifth filly to ever win the race.

She was the first filly to win the race in 85 years. This year’s Preakness Stakes could have another favorite win the race as Animal Kingdom looks to be the pick of many gamblers in Preakness Stakes handicapping. The projected odds on Animal Kingdom have the horse going off anywhere from 2-1 to 3-1.

There could be a large field in Preakness Stakes odds on Saturday, May 21st. There are a number of horses who are likely to take on Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom. The Preakness is limited to 14 starters and it is possible that it will be a full field this year.

Some of the horses from the Derby will be in the field and quite a few newcomers will also be in the race. In 14 of the last 18 years there have been at least 10 horses in the Preakness field.
