The 2015 Ashes series of test cricket matches between England and Australia won't begin until July 8 but Australia already has its roster set up. The Australian team announced its seventeen-man roster in late March and is waiting for the English team to finish off its final roster. Here is a look at a few highlights on the Australian side.
Clarke Is the Captain
Michael Clarke will be the captain for the Australian side. The Melbourne Stars batsman has competed in 108 test matches in his career. He once had four double centuries in 2012, thus making him the only test batsman to ever achieve this feat. He has 28 test centuries for his career and has achieved that feat against England seven times in his career.
Steve Smith Will Be the Vice Captain
All-rounder Steve Smith will be the team's vice captain. He has competed in 26 test matches in his career and already has eight centuries in those matches. He has three centuries against England as well. Last year, he has 192 runs in one test match against India.
Brad Haddin Will Keep the Wickets
Brad Haddin has been assigned to be the wicket-keeper for the Ashes. He has been in 62 test matches since 2009 and has also split time between the Sydney Sixers and Kolkata Knighr Riders. He has four centuries and eighteen 50s in his test career. He was actually the vice captain for a period of but the team decided to put Steve Smith in that position.
There are a few other names that deserve to be explored for this year's side. Fawad Ahmed has been playing for Victoria since 2013 and has become the newest member of the test side. Josh Hazelwood, who has been playing outside the country with the Mumbai Indians, has also become a new member of the side. Mitchell Marsh, who played with Australia in their win over England earlier this year in the Cricket World Cup, will also be playing although he only has four career test matches to his name.
