NASCAR betting fans will notice a new format to the Bud Shootout as you will now be able to bet on NASCAR with wild card entries for the event. NASCAR betting on the Budweiser Shootout used to be based on the pole winners from the previous season.
For 2009, however, gamblers will bet on NASCAR based on, among other things, each manufacturer having a wild card entry which will increase the field and excitement as well as the NASCAR betting options and opportunities available to handicappers.
This year the bet on NASCAR format for the Budweiser Shootout will be based on the top six teams from each manufacturer, which is a stark contrast to the past as long time NASCAR betting handicappers know.
The online NASCAR betting format to come up with the top six teams from Toyota, Chevrolet, Ford, and Dodge is based on the 2008 points race.
The NASCAR betting wild card criteria starts with any owner that was outside the top six in 2008 year end points whose driver is a pasta cup series champion that attempted to qualify for all 36 events in that year, making for an eligible spot to fill on the online NASCAR betting board.
Another NASCAR betting wild card criteria would be any owner or manufacturer that does not have a past champion but who was the next highest eligible owner outside the top six in year end 2008 points.
The NASCAR betting race distance will be increased for this new format and be 75 laps around the 2.5 mile tri-oval compared to 70 laps in past Budweiser Shootout events. Another change to the NASCAR betting format for the Bud Shootout will be that the race will have two segments of 25 and 50 laps.
Both green and yellow flag laps will count on the NASCAR betting board. Between segments, teams will have a 10-minute pit stop in which they can elect to change tires, add fuel, and make normal chassis adjustments. Starting positions will be based on a blind draw at the annual Budweiser Shootout Party February 5.
